A 44-year-old man named Eiffel Gilyana vanished while kayaking at the North Jetties ocean side near St. Augustine Inlet, shocking the Jacksonville community and causing them great anxiety and worry.
The hunt for him is already underway. In a last-ditch effort to ensure everyone’s safety, loved ones and government officials have banded together. Saturday was the last time anyone saw Eiffel Gilyana; she was out on a kayaking trip with several other fans.
When the group learned that Gilyana was no longer with them, the day took a terrible turn around 10 a.m. They desperately tried to find him for about an hour, but it was to no avail. Upon his disappearance, Gilyana was reportedly dressed in dark jeans and, most noticeably, was not wearing a life jacket or shirt. A feeling of urgency was added to the search and rescue attempt when his kayak was found washed up on the shore, upside down.
The US Coast Guard moved quickly, deploying workers from the Southeast to search the area around the St. Augustine Inlet. As part of the search operations, a Clearwater helicopter and a 45-foot reaction boat with a committed crew have been sent out. Additionally, local law enforcement organizations such as the St. Johns County Fire Rescue, St. Johns County Fish and Wildlife Commission, and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office have joined the mission.
